				Intro Am
I Am must have left my house at eight be-Fmaj7 cause I always E do
My E train, I’m certain, left the station just when it was Am due
I Am must have read the morning paper going into G town
And G having gotten through the editorial
no G/B doubt I must have C frowned
I C must have made my desk around a quarter after G nine
with G letters to be read, and heaps of papers waiting to be C signed
I F must have gone to lunch at C/E half past twelve or so,
the usual Dm place, the usual bunch
And Dm still on top of this
I’m pretty Dm/B sure it must have E rained
the day before you Am came
I Am must have lit my seventh cigarette at half past E two
And E at the time I never even noticed I was Am blue
I Am must have kept on dragging through the business of the G day
G Without really knowing anything, I hid a part of me a-C way
At C five I must have left, there’s no exception to the G rule
a G matter of routine, I’ve done it ever since I finished C school
The F train back home again, n-C/E doubtedly I must have read
the Dm evening paper then
Oh Dm yes, I’m sure my life was well
with-Dm/B in it’s usual E frame

I Am must have opened my front door at Fmaj7 eight o’clock or E so
And E stopped along the way to buy some Chinese food to Am go
I’m Am sure I had my dinner watching something on G T.V.
There’s G not, I think, a single episode of Dallas that I didn’t C see
I C must have gone to bed around a quarter after G ten
I G need a lot of sleep, and so I like to be in bed by C then
I F must have read a while, the C/E latest one by Marilyn French
or Dm something in that style
It’s Dm funny, but I had no sense
of Dm/B living without E aim
The day before you Am came
And F turning out the light, I C/E must have yawned
and cuddled up for Dm yet another night
And Dm rattling on the roof
I must have Dm/B heard the sound of E rain
The day before you Am came
